PictureSu Gilroy
We are excited to have confirmed a further couple of team members for our first children's theatre production CinderElla - And Her Smelly Old Slipper: Su Gilroy will be directing whilst Alisa James will be the production's designer and stage manager.

Su has been involved in many forms of theatre, from TIE and community theatre through provincial and touring theatre to West End,  and in many types of performance, from devised work through pantomime and rep to classics. She has directed over 20 productions in weekly rep, two plays on the London fringe, two plays for the Brighton Festival and two school tours. She has worked extensively with young people and has directed many youth productions. Su has an MA in Theatre and Performance Studies and is delighted to be working with Goblin Baby Theatre Company. And we are delighted that she will bring her experience and expertise to CinderElla!

Alisa is a designer, actor and director. She holds a BA (Hons) in Theatre Design for Performance from Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design. Design credits include Don Giovanni, The Maids, Oedipus Rex, The Tempest, and Macbeth. She has previously worked with Goblin Baby as an actress on The Vagina Monologues and also supported the UNHEARD Festival backstage so we are thrilled that she will now bring her design skills to our next production!

Announcing Our First Family Theatre Show

11/6/2015

We are thrilled to announce that this August we will be presenting our first family theatre show, recommended for ages 5+.

CinderElla - And Her Smelly Old Slipper will run on August 24th, 30th and 31st at The Bread & Roses Theatre in Clapham.

The story of Cinderella (Ella), probably not quite as you remember it.

Ella is devastated when shortly after her mother’s death her Papa remarries and before long passes away himself. She doesn't get along at all with her Step-Mama and stepsister Elizabeth-Victoria (Evi). With only her Fairy to confide in, Ella dreams of flying far, far away. When one day the average looking, twice divorced Prince Prince announces a ball to find his third wife, things get really out of a hand!

A fun, exciting, modern retelling of the classic fairy tale. Come and (re-)discover Cinderella’s story as you’ve never seen it before! The production will feature Artistic Director Tessa Hart and Artistic Associate Lydia Lane, with the rest of the team to be confirmed shortly.

New project announced: Sapientia!

We are thrilled to announce that our next project will be a new production of Sapientia (Mother Wisdom) by Hrotsvitha!

The rarely produced play from the 10th century was written by prominent Medieval writer Hrotsvitha of Gandersheim, who is considered the first post-classical dramatist as well as the first known female playwright!

It tells the story of Sapientia (Wisdom), who comes to Rome to teach love and truth, but who the local rulers, Emperor Hadrian and his henchman Antiochus, try to silence by torturing her three daughters Fides (Faith), Spes (Hope) and Caritas (Charity).

We are currently in the early stages of development for this new project planned for 2016.

Further details to follow in due course, so stay tuned!

Another exciting show is set to join the UNHEARD Festival in February. Talie Melnyk will bring her one woman show Maison des Reves from New York all the way to London! It will run on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd February at 3pm.

In 1909 Samara, Russia, Alexe Popova confessed to killing over 300 men, all known for abusing their wives and children. She liberated the women of her community and fought the War on Women in her own way, with a little lethal poison. Come “try” her for yourself at Maison des Reves! Through seven characters and a narrator, Talie Melnyk tells this unique true crime story.

“Talie Melnyk does an impressive job of portraying Popova and a host of other characters.” Elizabeth Withey, Edmonton Journal
“Talie Melnyk’s performance is lethal!” Doug Bale, Donald’s Dish
“Gritty, saddening, inspiring.” Jeff Preston, Theatre in London (Canada)
“I thoroughly enjoyed this empowering performance piece.” Mark Savitt, Hi Drama
“Maison des Reves is priceless subject matter.” Julie Congress, NY Theatre

Maison des Reves was previously nominated for 3 Planet Connections Awards in May 2014 including:
Outstanding Solo Show, Outstanding Costume Design & Outstanding Sound Design

For the second year in a row Goblin Baby Theatre Co. is thrilled to present a benefit production of The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler as part of the V-Day and One Billion Rising campaigns.

The award-winning play is based on V-Day Founder/playwright Eve Ensler's interviews with more than 200 women. With humor and grace the piece celebrates women's sexuality and strength. Through this play and the liberation of this one word, countless women throughout the world have taken control of their bodies and their lives. For more than sixteen years, The Vagina Monologues has given voice to experiences and feelings not previously exposed in public.

This year our The Vagina Monologues performances will be presented in combination with the UNHEARD Festival, exploring themes around sexual abuse and violence through performance and take place at the new Bread & Roses Theatre in Clapham.

Performances are Thursday 19th February at 7.30pm, as well as Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd February at 5pm.

Tickets can be booked online at www.BreadandRosesTheatre.co.uk (no online booking fees) or via telephone on 0333 666 3366 (calls cost the same as landline calls, but please note that fees apply for telephone bookings).
