Alone Inside the Box

A collection of boxed up tales about our messed up world

Tuesday 12th to Saturday 16th July 2016

at The Bread & Roses Theatre
68 Clapham Manor Street, SW4 6DZ Clapham, London

'Show of the Month' - Absolutely Battersea & Clapham Magazine
'Top Pick' for July - London Pub Theatres Magazine

In a series of monologues Goblin Baby Theatre Co. explores what it means to be on your own with your thoughts in our contemporary world. From comedy to tragedy, from abstract to literal, these are thought-provoking stories of characters, sometimes stuck in an actual box, sometimes in a metaphorical one, sometimes both.

Featuring:

Deserve to Die by Judy Upton, directed by Su Gilroy, performed by Lucy Harper
Pop star Karly will go to any lengths to promote her brand new song 'Deserve To Die'. Stirring up a bit of controversy on social media - where's the harm in that? It's not like anyone would actually take it seriously - would they?

Schrödinger’s Cat by Liam Patrick Harrison, directed by Kasia Różycki, performed by Sian Hill
“I'm a bit nervous to be honest. Because, although it is noble… and beautiful. To die for someone's beliefs. There's just... So much I haven’t seen. Outside this little neighbourhood... This little box…”

Life Sentence by Siân Rowland, directed by Tessa Hart, performed by Victoria Porter
While thousands struggle to gain entry to Europe, some will sacrifice everything to leave the comfort of home for an unknown future. For those left behind, the questions begin to overwhelm the happy memories and life will never be the same again.

Drone by Tom Jensen, directed by Stuart Black, performed by Justin Marosa
Forget governments – these days anyone can spy on you. Your boss. Your spouse. Or that weirdo at the pub. All they need is a drone. But who would spy on Matt? He’s just an ordinary guy. And his buzzing stalker seems to have a mind of its own…

Fallout by Naomi Westerman, directed by Ghenet Pinderhughes, performed by James Peake
Simon is going to be a STAH, BABY! At 30, he's finally achieved his lifelong dream: to have his own cabaret show. The audience literally never leave. But why are the foot-thick metal doors to the outside locked and bolted?

Helios by Connor Patrick Carroll, directed by Grace Taylor, performed by Sian Hill
When a death close to home blindsides Marianne she is desperate to pull herself together and move on. There’s just one problem…her daughter won’t let her forget. As she searches through her family history to understand this tragedy she must decide what to throw away and what to pass on...

Man Up, Man Down by Tessa Hart, directed by Alisa James, performed by Andrew Candish
One box can be even better than another when you need to escape from the pressure of the harmful expectations the world has for you. But when nothing can contain you and keep you safe, is there only one way out of it?
