After 13 performances at two venues over the last two months The Devil & Stepashka has come to an end!

We finish on another high with yet another 4 star review, from Female Arts this time!

Many thanks yo our fantastic team and to everyone who came to watch and support the production!

★★★★ "The world is full of women with no voice of their own or no one to speak on their behalf. It is good that Goblin Baby Theatre in its own way highlights their plight in an entertaining, but provoking fashion." - Female Arts

Press Coverage for The Devil & Stepashka

Now that the first two weeks of The Devil & Stepashka at The Space have come to an end, we throw a quick look back at some of the press coverage the production has received and give you a quick summary below.

First of all we had a series of interviews with various of the creatives involved and giving lots of further background details on the production and our journey to create it:
  • IdeasMag: Meet... Tessa Hart
  • OffWestend.com: Exciting new theatre company Goblin Baby talk to Tom Wicker about challenging audience expectations with their first full-length play THE DEVIL AND STEPASHKA
  • FemaleArts: Interview with Goblin Baby
  • The Space:: An Interview with Goblin Baby, creators of The Devil and Stepashka

Furthermore, the production also received great reviews!

★★★★ The superstitiously secular, domestic world of Claire Booker’s The Devil and Stepashka manages to create a believable male Antigone in what ends up to be very literally one hell of a double-bind. - Exeunt Magazine on The Devil & Stepashka (June 2014)
★★★★ The production is gripping and thought-provoking from beginning to end and left the audience with something to ponder and think on. (...) [Claire] Booker’s play is very brave as well as unusual and this production is one of those hidden gems on the London Fringe.
- Remotegoat on The Devil & Stepashka (June 2014)
Inspired by Tolstoy's The Devil, Claire Booker's play explores what happens when passion crosses over into obsession and - in keeping with the company's focus on political theatre - whether justice can ever be obtained within an inherently corrupt society. (...) The Devil & Stepaskha is an intriguing new work which leaves you alarmed that such obvious madness could play out so dangerously.
- Views from the Gods on The Devil & Stepashka (June 2014)

Another 4 stars for The Devil & Stepashka!

The Devil & Stepashka has received another 4 star review from Exeunt Theatre Magazine this time!
★★★★ Zhenya (Paul Christian Rogers) is a rational man. He knows that if he succumbs to his passion for the peasant Stepashka (Tessa Hart), his idyllic marriage to another woman will be wrenched out of joint. And yet he knows that he can never get Stepashka out of his mind. The superstitiously secular, domestic world of Claire Booker’s The Devil and Stepashka manages to create a believable male Antigone in what ends up to be very literally one hell of a double-bind.

There are now only three performances left at The Space from 18th to 20th June, so make sure to come along!

The Devil & Stepashka has received a four star review on Remotegoat and Views from the Gods also has lots of good things to say about the production! We have exactly four performances left at The Space (apparently the magic number is so four today).

Book your tickets asap! Tuesday 17th to Saturday 20th June.

★★★★ The production is gripping and thought-provoking from beginning to end and left the audience with something to ponder and think on. (...) The set was simple but clever. (...) The cast of four was diverse and international but all delivered solid performances. (...) Booker’s play is very brave as well as unusual and this production is one of those hidden gems on the London Fringe.

A Fairytale Journey with RETOLD

Last night our run of RETOLD - A Fairytale Festival... without the 'happily ever after' came to an end!

After 11 performances at 2 theatres spread over 3 weeks and overall 9 months of developing the project we've had a truly smashing start to the year 2014.

Both The Space as well as The Hen & Chickens Theatre have been fantastic venues to be working at and we are thrilled that Goblin Baby's second project had the opportunity to be shown at two of the best fringe venues in London.

Below are extracts of what reviewers had to say about the project and company.

Here's to a continuously successful 2014!

★★★★ 'Retold. A Fairytale Festival without the happily ever after’ is very special to watch, something unusual and different from your average fringe show. (...)  Goblin Baby Theatre Company seems to have a knack for finding ways to address at times challenging or unusual topics through theatre.  - Remotegoat
...there is great intelligence and ambition here; this is definitely a company to watch and it will be exciting to see them grow...  - The Public Reviews
It's nice to see Goblin Baby attempting to take a stance akin to [Angela] Carter rather than the derivative guff that has come out of Hollywood and TV studios of late... - Views from the Gods
