Goblin Baby Theatre Co. is looking for a director for our upcoming production in October 2014 at The Hen & Chickens Theatre. The core of the production will be an adaptation of Chekhov's One Act Farce The Proposal. The difference being in our version this is set in future Russia, when the country has become a leading example of equality and we have a woman proposing to another woman . Dates are 7th to 11th October with rehearsals starting in September. As we have an overall slot of up to 60 minutes (Tue to Sat at 7.30pm, with Sat matinée at 3.30pm) and the play would run at around 30/35 minutes, it would be accompanied by one or two pieces of new writing on same sex marriage (exact details tbc). The original plan was to have one director overall for all pieces, but we would also be up for having one director for the main play and then someone else for the accompanying piece/s. It is a low-budget production, so we'd be looking at very basic set and costume etc. Payment-wise it would be a profit-share. Part of the cast is confirmed and part still to be cast. If interested or you have further questions email us at [email protected] With one project coming to an end we are already in the middle of working on the next one!
Our upcoming production FORESEEN will present four dark, comic, post-apocalyptic new short plays and will run as part of the Camden Fringe at The Hen & Chickens Theatre from 22nd to 24th August at 6pm. We are thrilled to announce our lovely cast will comprise Alice Bell, Michael Bagwell and Alexandra Vincent, who will be playing four roles each! Find out more about them in the Creative Team & Cast section. This August we are joining the Camden Fringe Festival for the first time with our project FORESEEN! The show will present four dark, comic & thought-provoking new short plays, imagining possible post-apocalyptic futures, based on our current world. Performance are at The Hen & Chickens Theatre on 22nd, 23rd and 24th August. We are now casting for three actors for the show. Each play has three characters and all four plays will be portrayed by the same three actors, therefore, we are looking for very versatile performers. We are very much looking for a wide-spread range of ethnicities and really encourage applications from all backgrounds! Applications via CCP are preferred but you can also email [email protected] with your CV, headshot and cover letter. Tickets are also already on sale and it is never too early to book for a Goblin Baby production! Further details on www.camdenfringe.com. Time flies, as it's already been one year since the official beginning of the Goblin Baby Theatre Co.! And although, it's only been a year since the Goblin Baby's birth, we already have a lot to look back on and even more to look forward to. 1st March 2013 was the date that we kicked off preparations for UNHEARD, which went on to be our first production over two nights in June 2013 at The Space. Ever since, the company has grown quickly and further artists have joined the team. In January 2014 we presented our second production RETOLD, a big jump ahead from our two nights show, as this one ran for two weeks overall, at two different venues, The Space as well as The Hen & Chickens Theatre. We are honoured to have been welcomed back to stage further work at both venues throughout 2014, so if you want to know what we've got coming up next, take a look at our upcoming Productions. A huge thanks to everyone who has been part of the journey so far, it's been a great first year, so here's to many more! And last but not least, here's a look back at the projects from our first year: We are thrilled to announce that after our first outing at The Hen & Chickens Theatre with RETOLD in January, we've been invited back to stage further productions at the venue. We can now announce another project which we will present at the theatre during summer season in 2014.
FORESEEN will present a collection of new, darkly comic and thought-provoking short plays, exploring themes and scenarios around future, post-apocalyptic worlds imagined based on our contemporary ways of life and ways of thinking. It will be presented as part of the Camden Fringe on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th August. Last night our run of RETOLD - A Fairytale Festival... without the 'happily ever after' came to an end! After 11 performances at 2 theatres spread over 3 weeks and overall 9 months of developing the project we've had a truly smashing start to the year 2014. Both The Space as well as The Hen & Chickens Theatre have been fantastic venues to be working at and we are thrilled that Goblin Baby's second project had the opportunity to be shown at two of the best fringe venues in London. Below are extracts of what reviewers had to say about the project and company. Here's to a continuously successful 2014! ★★★★ 'Retold. A Fairytale Festival without the happily ever after’ is very special to watch, something unusual and different from your average fringe show. (...) Goblin Baby Theatre Company seems to have a knack for finding ways to address at times challenging or unusual topics through theatre. - Remotegoat ...there is great intelligence and ambition here; this is definitely a company to watch and it will be exciting to see them grow... - The Public Reviews It's nice to see Goblin Baby attempting to take a stance akin to [Angela] Carter rather than the derivative guff that has come out of Hollywood and TV studios of late... - Views from the Gods We had a fantastic time and successful opening night at our first performance ever at The Hen & Chickens last night! There are now only 4 performances left of our 4-star reviewed RETOLD, so we recommend to book tickets asap. Plus to celebrate a successful opening we've released a final 7 more reduced price tickets for our Thursday night. Head to the ticket booking page and use the promo code SNOWWHITE (only available online, not at the door, and last promo code we will be running for this show). Two days until our 4-star rated show RETOLD - A Fairytale Festival... without the 'happily ever after' opens its final week at The Hen & Chickens Theatre in Islington. This will be the last chance to see this production, so make sure to book your tickets asap. And have a look at our fancy updated poster on the left. Hope to see you this coming week at RETOLD! After a successful week at The Space we are currently getting ready to transfer RETOLD to the lovely Hen & Chickens Theatre in Islington next week! Tuesday 28th January to Saturday 1st Feburary at 7pm To celebrate we've released a limited amount of reduced price tickets for our opening night there (28th January).
